Left-hander Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers‘ top pitching prospect, will be promoted to the majors from Class AA Jacksonville for the second time this season and will start at Colorado on Tuesday night. The decision to bring him back was made, at least tentatively, just before the All-Star break by general manager Ned Colletti and manager Joe Torre, but Kershaw wasn’t made aware of it until Monday.

Kershaw, 20, was promoted for the first time on May 24 and wound up making eight starts in the majors, going 0-2 with a 4.42 ERA while walking entirely too many batters (24 in 38 2/3 innings). He was sent back to Jacksonville on July 2. In three subsequent starts for the Suns, he is 2-0, having allowed two earned runs in 18 innings with just two walks.
